STOTT PILATES® is a contemporary approach to the original mind-body exercise method pioneered by Joseph Pilates. A progression in pilates that incorporates modern exercise science and rehabilitation principles, it is a safe and highly effective low-impact way to rebalance, strengthen and streamline your body.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE STOTT PILATES® METHOD AND OTHER PILATES TECHNIQUES?

Unlike the original series of Pilates exercises, STOTT PILATES® incorporates modern
exercise principles, including contemporary thinking about spinal rehabilitation and
performance enhancement. For example, unlike the original approach, which promotes
a flat back, STOTT PILATES® exercises are designed to restore the natural curves of the spine and rebalance the muscles around the joints. This is an important departure from the original Pilates system and many other popular forms of fitness.

The STOTT PILATES® method also places more emphasis on scapula stabilisation and there are more preparatory exercises and modifications to make the method safer and more effective.

I have a chronic lower back problem which I manage through daily exercises at home and weekly sessions with Jo. The weekly sessions are key because they help me keep the daily exercises on track and provide additional challenge when I need it. Being 1-1, the sessions are intense but fully focused on my needs. The resulting improvement in my mobility and general quality of life has been fantastic — so I heartily recommend the Human Movement Clinic! Charles M.

WHAT KIND OF RESULTS CAN I EXPECT FROM DOING PILATES?

You can expect an increase in flexibility, mobility, balance, and body awareness, as well as a decrease in back pain and other general pains. Essentially, the no-impact, neuromuscular technique is designed to improve posture, strengthen and lengthen muscles without adding bulk. An emphasis on breathing leaves you feeling refreshed, not exhausted.
